Walk to Sea Saddle

Nine of us walked up to Sea Saddle and back yesterday morning, grabbing the chance to stretch our legs before the rain arrived.  The views were, as usual, wonderful, but we could have done without the cool wind.  It was interesting to see how full the lagoon is and the two pictures below show the stark contrast with what it looked like in January, when the mouth was still open.

We topped off the day with our mid-year party and planning meeting, held at the Ski Boat Club last evening.  A good programme of walks has been arranged for the next six months.

Vogelgat to Fernkloof

Nine of us set out this morning, led by Debbie.  When we arrived at the Vogelgat Base Camp the temperature was 5 degrees Celcius, but it was a beautiful day for walking.  Our route took us up to Quark Hut, where we had tea, before setting out for the Jeep track close to the Vogelgat boundary.  From there we still had to climb to 516 m.a.m.s.l. before we started the downhill section to the Fernkloof Visitors’ Centre.

After all the heavy rain of the past week, it was pretty wet underfoot and the bridge at Quark was partially damaged, but it was a wonderful outing.  We covered around 11 kilometres in 5 hours and (best of all!) we never saw another soul.  The mountain was ours and we really appreciated it!
