A Stormy Weekend

The cut-off low that loomed over the Western Cape brought very high rainfall figures and enormous damage. We measured around 125 mm of rain in Hermanus, bringing our total for the month to date to 196 mm.

One’s heart goes out to all the people who were flooded or cut off by washaways. Electricity and water supplies were interrupted, trees blew over, the golf course was flooded and the rivers came down in full spate, taking everything before them. Beaches are littered with debris and I counted at least six landslides in Fernkloof. The sea has turned brown from all the water rushing into it and the whales must be wondering what has happened!
