Pringle Bay to Rooi Els

This morning eight Hurriers made the most of perfect walking conditions and enjoyed a good walk from Pringle Bay to Rooi Els and back.  Not only did we see some interesting botanical specimens along the way, but also a number of local birds.  The Cape Rock Jumper, however, did not appear despite much searching.  We covered a distance of 10.5 kms.

Jackals Dans Revisited

This morning we accompanied the Fanatics up onto the burnt mountain at Jackals Dans in order to seek out new orchids.  We found a few, as well as a number of other interesting and beautiful plants, some of which are shown below.  The Fanatics recorded no less than 73 different species.

De Kelders – Gansbaai Foreshore

Elsa led eight of us on a very pleasant walk from De Kelders to Gansbaai and back again. The weather was perfect and we stopped at Coffee On The Rocks for iced coffee after we had completed the 8.2 kilometre walk, which took two and a half hours.  We even saw a whale or two, although most seem to have left for Antarctica already.  A south-easterly wind had flattened the sea and there was not a wave in sight, but really good visibility meant that we could see clear across to Cape Point!
