I was delighted yesterday to suddenly see an African Harrier Hawk fly over our house. Luckily, I managed to get my camera out and snap a couple of pictures of this magnificent bird.

Overberg Winter
What a day! The Overberg is looking absolutely wonderful. Streams and rivers are in spate, dams are full, the fields of wheat and Canola are looking amazing, and the mountains are covered in snow! What a delight!
Renee and I drove to Greyton and then along the foothills of the mountains towards Villiersdorp, before turning back to Hermanus. It was wonderful to be out in the crisp cold winter air.
A Winter Morning on the Golf Course
Looking out of our bedroom window this morning, we were greeted by this delightful sight of Springbok grazing on the flooded golf course.
Beachrocks and what grows on them
The beach at Wilderness is fascinating at low tide when the young beachrocks are exposed and the weed that grows on them is revealed.
Military Music
Nothing makes one want to get up and march more than a military band. What a pity we don’t see and hear more of them.
RIP Rocky
We collected Rocky in Cape Town for Michael and Nicky and family in about 2009. He was a very lovable little chap, but he soon grew into a boisterous and often impossible ball of energy. He provided great companionship to his family and it was very sad to hear of his death. Perhaps he was not always the most obedient dog, but he certainly had ‘houding‘. He will be sorely missed and well remembered by all who knew him.
Grandpa
More than just Birds
On a birding trip to Zimbabwe a couple of years ago, we were lucky to see many birds and get many pictures, but there is always more. In my rush to publish my bird images, I often overlook the other beautiful sights along the way, such as the wild flowers, so I thought I would dig up some pictures from this trip and share them.
Where are the Whales?
Normally, by this time of year, the seas along the Walker Bay coast are alive with Southern Right Whales, but this year we haven’t seen one! We wonder where they can be and keep a constant look out, but to no avail. This is what we should be seeing.
After the Rain
Much needed rainfall in the Overstrand has brought our mountain streams to life, and I am reminded that they have provided us with a number of beautiful waterfalls.
Early Spring on the Contour Path
This morning we walked up Elephant path to the Contour path and then back eastwards to Fernkloof. The veld is looking great and it was wonderful to see the hundreds of pypies (Gladiolus hirsutus) in bloom above Hermanus Heights. There were also thousands of Struthiola in bloom, as well as many Drosera, Pauridia and some Moraeas.
